This is an open call for African leaders and digital technology enthusiasts who want to help form a **continent-wide community** of people interested in promoting **the design and development of people-centered ICTs across Africa**.![]()
· You might be a teacher or researcher in Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) at an African university.![]()
· You might be an academic in design, business, or another field.![]()
· You might be a User Experience practitioner, Interaction Designer, or Service Designer at an Africa-based company.![]()
· You might be an entrepreneur enthusiastic about creating technologies with and for African communities.![]()
· Or you might just be passionate about building a community of like-minded professionals who want to **exchange ideas, reflect on where we are now as a community, and strategize on the future of human-centered technology on the continent**.![]()
The plan is to meet online in **JUNE **(dates to be confirmed) and in person in Cape Town, South Africa, with SIGCHI Executive Committee members in **AUGUST **(in conjunction with the [ACM COMPASS conference](compass.acm.org/)). All leaders are welcome to attend online in June. A nomination process will be followed for attending the in-person summit in August as per the availability of SIGCHI funds. The selection process will be decided upon collectively in the online event.![]()
**The online summit will strengthen the existing technology design community in Africa. You will get to listen, learn, share, and engage with the fantastic leaders and founders of the African Human-Computer Interaction community. Additionally, we will develop a specific agenda of topics and issues the community would like to discuss with SIGCHI Executive Committee members during the in-person summit. Both the online and in-person summit/meetings will be HARD WORK and FUN :)**![]()
Who are we? **Shaimaa Lazem and Hafeni Mthoko**are HCI researchers working with ACM SIGCHI ([sigchi.org](sigchi.org/)) **PARTNERSHIP COMMITTEE** to serve the technology makers communities in Africa.![]()
